Recap: BIG SHOTS RICHMOND SHOWTIME 2024

It was Showtime at BIG SHOTS in Richmond for the first time

Richmond, VA - Some of the most highly touted players and top grassroots programs  from Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina converged on the brand new Henrico Sports and Events Center in Glen Allen, Virginia to participate in the sold out and aptly named Richmond Showtime event. 
 
Top prospects from Richmond Showtime:
 
Steven Akoby (7’2 2026 Cap City Ballerz / S3 Academy). Steven is athletic and long, a strong leaper with excellent timing for blocks and rebounds.  Demonstrates agility to nifty footwork defending in space.  On the offensive end he scored both facing the rim with with short sturdy drives off the bounce and 15 foot jumpers and either his back to the basket either jump hooks.  Runs the floor exceptionally well!!  Exciting upside!! 
 
Tykie Jones (6’4 2025 River City Reign Big Shots/Henrico HS, VA).  A high flying and dynamic finisher Tykie is an elite athlete and versatile shot maker.  Uses contact nicely and has a deft shooting touch.  Tykie was a 1st team VHSL All Region 4B pick and also earned 2nd team All State honors after a solid junior season.
 
Azareon Claxton (6’3 2026 Team Chais/Albemarle HS, VA)  Strong and quick attacking off the bounce, Azareon mixes crafty drives with physicality.  He scores it from all levels but is most productive off the bounce where he uses quick rips and blows by bigger defenders while using his strength to maneuver against smaller defenders.  Rebounds, defends multiple positions. 
 
Jameer Reynolds (6’6 2026 VizionNXTPro 2026/Carlisle School, VA).  Long and explosive off the bounce with shifty footwork, body control and a terrific touch.  Jameer knocks down jumpers from all areas in addition to his slashing basket attacking style and much quicker than you would think.  A terrific shot blocker and rebounder oozing with athleticism and explosive leaping ability.  Big upside!! 
 
Darius Gray (6’4 2026 River City Reign Big Shots/St Christopher’s School, VA).  A big time football prospect Darius is also a scholarship level basketball talent.  Big and strong with nimble footwork and a soft touch finishing around the rim. One of our Big Shots Scout and former UNC Assistant Coach Bob MacKinnon who coached Julius Peppers at North Carolina likens Darius to Julius Peppers.
 
Isaiah Carter (6’6 2028 Team Loaded VA 3SSB/Trinity Episcopal School, VA).  Isaiah is a sniper!  Rangy wing who can score it from anywhere on the floor and can get hot quick and go on big scoring binges!  Great body  control, footwork and a terrific touch scoring in and around the rim.  Isaiah averaged 13.3ppg during Richmond Showtime. 
 
Derrius Jones (6’6 2026 VizionNXTPro / Albemarle HS, VA).  A deft shooting touch from deep and. Serious three point threat.  Derrius can beat you off the bounce with powerful strides yet shifty footwork, body control and a terrific touch in and around the paint. 
 
Quinton Morgan (6’9 2025 Team Loaded 804/Deep Run HS, VA). Quinton is coming off a breakout season at Deep Run HS and is a top big man in Virginia!  Powerful legs, soft hands, moves without the ball nicely and is a strong finisher.  Energy giver, ro lortector extraordinaire witg timing for blocks and rebounds.  Runs the floor quickly and gracefully. 
 
Sean Tyler (6’5 2026 Vizion EV/Fluvanna HS, VA). Sean is big, 6’5 215 but shifty with a quick first step and long strides attacking the rim.  Plays through contact, fantastic finisher.  He can hit the jumper at an efficient rate showing smooth mechanics.  Versatile defender as he blocks shots and rebounds while also showing the ability to defend in space! 
 
Deshawn Spellman (6’6 2026 Team Loaded NC/Landstown HS, VA).  A lengthy wing who can stretch the floor with the jumper or beat you off the bounce.  Deshawn scores in a variety of ways from thunderous dunks attacking the rim off the bounce or as a lob target to jumpers from all levels.  Athletic and long defensively he knocks shots and rebounds and has the quickness to defend a variety of positions. 
 
Chase Foster (6’10 2026 Team Loaded VA 3SSB/Edmondson-Westside HS, MD).  Long and athletic with exciting perimeter skills.  Chase can stretch the floor with the jumper and score off the bounce with length and touch.  Plays off hesitations, crafty handle featuring quick low crossovers and between the legs dribbles, followed by length and a strong burst.  Scores in the lane with spin moves shifty footwork.  Hits the dribble pull-up  Dominant paint presence and rim Protector!  Chase holds offers from Virginia Tech, Penn State, Maryland, Washington, Mississippi State, Providence, College of Charleston, Illinois, Florida State, Texas A&M, LSU, Old Dominion, Radford among others. 
 
Yohance Connor (6’2 2026 Team Loaded VA / 1 of 1 Prep Academy, NC). Dynamic finisher with explosive leaping ability.  Mixes highlight reel worthy dunks with blur-like end to end quickness.  Plays quick but under control.  Hits the jumper both off the catch and off the bounce.  Creates for others.  Defends!  Yohance is the #1 shooting guard in North Carolina’s 2026 class!  He currently holds offers from the likes of Auburn, Illinois, Wake Forest, ASU, VCU, High Point, Radford, CMU. 
 
JJ Addison (6’5 2026 Team Loaded VA / Frederick HS, MD).  An All Central Maryland 1st Team Selection after leading Frederick HS to their first state basketball title since 1982.  JJ is tough to guard given his ability to score off the bounce coupled with a near automatic dribble pullup jumper.  Plays with pace, clever footwork and explosive leaping ability around the rim.  Excellent ball skills mixes scoring with solid playmaking instincts.  JJ rebounds the basketball and is a double/double threat while providing defensive versatility. 
 
CJ Jones (6’0 2026 Team Loaded NC/Dudley HS, NC).  A NCHSAA 3A Mid State All Conference pick Jonas is a sharpshooter!  Whether shooting off the catch where his footwork and shot prep is text book, shooting off a dribble pullup, coming off screens or with the floater over length his touch is terrific!  CJ has the ability to play slow to fast and when he shifts into another gear he gets to the rim in a flash!  CJ holds an offer from College of Charleston.

In the 17U Division Team Loaded 804 got 14 points from John Marshall High School 6’4 senior  wing Ashaun Moore and 13 points from 6’7 2025 forward Jordan Jackson (Highland Springs) enroute to a convincing win over Local Legends Unsigned.  Moore, who suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss his junior season bounced back with a strong senior campaign for the Justices.  He played well throughout the weekend and also came up big in a tightly contest five point win over Vizion EV scoring 10 points to help secure the win and send Team Loaded 804 into the title game.  Moore mixes physicality with athletic finishes and shot making skills from all levels.  Jackson is strong in the paint both as a scorer and rebounder and can also step out and hit the jumper. 
 
More of the 17U divisions top performers:
 
MJ Patton (6’0 2025 Triple Threat Aftershocks/Mercer Christian Academy, WV).  MJ led Triple Threat Aftershocks scoring 26 points in the Silver title game.  He averaged a 17U leading 24.3ppg.  Patton is a crafty scorer attacking angles nicely and using contact.  He is an efficient shooter from all levels.  Gets to his spots off the bounce hitting step backs and side dribble step backs and knows how to get his shot in traffic and against length. 
 
Ja’Mari Craighead (6’1 2024 434 Supreme/Halifax County HS, VA).  Jamari is a two sport standout at Halifax County High School.  A “quick, hard hitting linebacker” he has signed a letter of intent to play his college football at Bluefield University.  Ja’Mari earned All Piedmont District honors averaging 13.5ppg to lead Halifax County High School in scoring. 
 
Tykie Jones (6’4 2025 River City Reign Big Shots/Henrico HS, VA).  A high flying and dynamic finisher Tykie is an elite athlete and versatile shot maker.  Uses contact nicely and has a deft shooting touch.  Tykie was a 1st team VHSL All Region 4B pick and also earned 2nd team All State honors after a solid junior season.
 
Michael “MJ” Winstead (6’1 2024 Local Legends Unsigned / Benedictine College Prep VA).  MJ is one of the top available guards in Virginia!  Adept at creating for himself and others demonstrating very good vision and passing skills.  He excels at getting into the lane and scoring on the move.  MJ averaged 16.3ppg during the weekend as Local Legends Unsigned went 3-1. 
 
Cade Murphy (6’5 2026 Team Loaded NC / Knoxville Catholic).  Cade is an assassin with the jumper hitting at a high percentage from all areas.  He is methodical attacking off the bounce using contact effectively to create an angle and to create space.  Adept at creating for himself and probing the floor in an effort to get teammates involved.  Cade doesn’t mind mixing it up inside and impacts in a variety of ways on both ends of the floor.  He has a great understanding of the game.  Cade averaged 22ppg during Richmond Showtime.  Ranked among the top players in Tennessee.  He holds a Radford offer. 
 
Will Hopkins (6’2 2025 Local Legends Unsigned/Benedictine College Prep, VA).  Will averaged 14.3ppg and scored 21 points in the title game loss.  Will
Hits the catch and shoot jumper at an efficient rate. A shifty slasher type who scores on the move nicely.  An exciting finisher mixing creativity on non dunk finishes and explosive bounce to finish above the rim.
 
In the 16U Platinum Division Apex Spurs Ransom took home the title with a 76-55 win over FBP Elite 16U.  Chris Tsolenyanu (6’6 2026 Cleveland HS, NC) led the way with 17 points and earned MVP honors.  He scored both facing the rim with short jumper and off the bounce and with his back to the basket with drop steps and turnaround jumpers and rebounded both ends of the floor.  5’11 2026 Chase Gilmore (West Johnston HS, NC) added 14 points.  Gilmore, a smooth shooting guard who can fill it up with the jumper or employ his strong frame and crafty footwork to score in the paint and at the rim averaged 14.5ppg and his 43 points scored tied him for third best in the 16U Platinum Division.  He was the West Johnston HS junior varsity MVP and is the brother of St Augustine’s guard Caleb Gilmore.  Scotty Jones (6’1 2027 Wake Forest HS, NC) led FBP Elite throughout the weekend and his 43 points tied him for third best in the 16U Platinum Division.  He knocked down shots both off the catch and off the dribble and used timely hesitations, a crafty handle and clever footwork to get to the rim and finish with good regularity throughout the weekend.
 
16U Platinum top performers
 
-Jacob McLehaney, 2026 Local Legends 2026 Black(19.7 ppg)
-Darius Hamlett, 6’4 2026 434 Supreme (16.7ppg)
 
River City Reign King Big Shots claimed the 16U Slam Title with a 73-61 win over Team Chaos.  6’3 2026 Varina HS two sport standout (basketball/football) Da’Mari Carter scored 17 points in the title game.  A physical slasher type and explosive leaper, Carter is no stranger to championships.  He was a member of the Varina basketball team that won the 2023 VHSL Class 4 state basketball title.  He finished the weekend tied for fourth among the divisions scoring leaders with 48 points.  St Christopher’s two sport standout Darius Gray chipped in with 13 points.  Gray, a four star football prospect is a walking double/double on the basketball court.  A punishing finisher with nimble footwork and touch is also a scholarship level basketball prospect.  The 6’4 280 lineman holds football offers from the likes of Alabama, South Carolina, Michigan, Penn St, Tennessee, UNC, Texas A&M, VT, UVA, Wisconsin and many others.  Team Chaos was led by 6’3 2026 Isaac Radde (Albemarle HS, VA) with 13 points. 
 
Other standouts in the 16U Slam Division:
 
-Faron Friend (6’5 2026 River City Reign King Big Shots / Glen Allen HS, VA).  A player we featured two years ago as a player to watch, Faron scored 36 points on Sunday against Team Loaded NC 2026 3SSB.  He scored 26 in the game prior to that against VizionNXTPro, two very good opponents!  Rangy and fluid, Faron can flat out score the basketball from anywhere on the floor and out of a variety of actions.  He was among the top scorers in VHSL Class 6 at 18.6ppg and earned All Region 6A honors. 
-Connor Lyons (6’7 2026 Team Loaded VA / St Anne’s Belfield School).  Another player we featured back in 2021 Connor has effortless mechanics and is a threat with the jumper from all levels.  Both his Mom and Dad played basketball at UVA and he too is receiving D1 attention as he currently holds an offer from ODU.  Connor averaged 19.0ppg during the weekend. 
-King Williams (6’2 2026 Circle Sports). King has a strong frame, good quickness, a ball hawkish defender.  Attacks the basket strong and determined.  King averaged 18.3ppg during Richmond Showtime. 
 
15U TOP PERFORMERS
 
Olodeji Olorungbohunmi (6’4 2027 St Johns College HS, DC) and Braden Suggs (5’10 2027 Jay M Robinson MS, NC) led Team Accelerate 2027 to the 15U title wrapping up an unbeaten weekend with a win over Vizion NXT Elite.  Olodeji is a lefty shot maker who mixes jumpers from all areas with quick drives to the rim employing spin moves and shifty footwork.  He’s a game changing defensive presence jumping into passing lanes for steals, rebounding and defending with energy.  Suggs can flat out shoot it!  He gets to his spots off the bounce for the dribble pullup and also does a nice job creating for others. Stingy defender plays with a chip on his shoulder.  Suggs earned MVP honors in the 15U title game. 
 
-Malachi Terrell (6’1 2027 Team Loaded VA 2027 3SSB / Gonzaga College HS, MD).  Malachi is dazzling with the ball in his hands.  Skilled and crafty he uses shifty footwork, change of pace and gets to the rim in a flash.  Scores with runners and floaters.  Very efficient shooting off the dribble using step backs and dribble pull-ups.  Malachi averaged 21ppg during the weekend.  He holds a Bethune-Cookman offer. 
-Isaiah Carter (6’6 2028 Team Loaded VA 3SSB/Trinity Episcopal School, VA).  Isaiah is a sniper!  Rangy wing who can score it from anywhere on the floor and can get hot quick and go on big scoring binges!  Great body  control, footwork and a terrific touch scoring in and around the rim.  Isaiah averaged 13.3ppg during Richmond Showtime. 
-Yandel Robles (6’0 2027 VizuonNXTPro/Harrisonburg HS, VA)  Yandel mixed in jumpers from all levels with strong drives to the rim.  A downhill attacker who can outmuscle defenders.  He averaged 16ppg over the weekend. 
 
14U STANDOUTS
 
Team Loaded 804 2028 claimed the 14U title edging Gladiator Elite 45-44.  Keyon Wright earned MVP honors after a team high 12 point performance.  Wright and 6’2 2028 Adam Wesseh were standouts throughout the weekend in the 14U division.  Kane Winiarski (5’8 2028) had a strong weekend for Gladiator Elite.  Kane also plays quarterback at Manchester High School, VA.
