Alex has the physical tools and the skill level to be a prolific scorer at the high school level and position himself as a solid next level prospect.  Good length for the guard position at 6’5, fluid athleticism, fundamentally sound and silky smooth shot mechanics and the ability to take defenders off the bounce and score on the move.  Alex uses basic crossovers, plays off jabs effectively and attacks the basket with long strides, great body control and touch finishing in the lane.  He has very good footwork in the mid range and some shiftiness navigating traffic and slicing his way to the rim.  Alex is a sniper!  He is a threat from anywhere on the floor both shooting off the catch and off a very efficient dribble pullup.  He can back his man down with the dribble then spin off the contact to score.  Although he would be categorized as a scorer, Alex does flash some playmaking savvy as he does a nice job getting the ball to the open man while attacking off the bounce and the willingness to create for others.  On the defensive end he has the ability to guard multiple positions combining length, solid footwork and agility.  Alex is a very good rebounding and shot blocking presence with the ability to grab a rebound and lead the break or go coast to coast to score getting up and down the floor with good quickness with the dribble.  When all is said and done I expect Alex along with his sharpshooting teammate and brother Aaron McFarlane, both moving to the area from Florida earlier this year, to emerge among the top players in Virginia’s 2025 class.
