Big Shots Spotlight: Tyrese Williams 6’2 2025 LC Bird HS, VA

By Big Shots Nation - Frank Bennett, 10/07/23, 11:15AM EDT

Tyrese is a physical yet crafty playmaker who employs a powerful, compact frame which allows him to bully many guards and the skillful technique and savvy court awareness that aids in his ability to create for himself and for others.  He does a great job creating and attacking angles and playing off timely hesitations to get dribble penetration at will to keep pressure on defenses. Uses his off hand effectively, unfazed by contact and never gets knocked off his driving route.  Strong enough to power his way to the rim to score through contact.  Finishes with either hand at the rim.  Tyrese looks to create for others first and gets into the lane frequently drawing help defenders and finding the open man.  Using his keen passing skills and vision he delivers pinpoint passes in a timely manner and enjoys creating an open shot for a teammate more than he seems to enjoy scoring himself!  He can fill it up when needed not only attacking off the bounce but scoring with the jumper from all levels.  A lefty who can knock down the jumper at a good rate from behind the arc both in catch and shoot action and off the bounce.  He uses step backs to create space and is very good, especially off the bounce when he initiates contact to create space for the dribble pullup.  Tyrese understands spacing, shows solid leadership and game management skills, an astute playmaker.  His advanced feel and skill level is part of a family trait as Tyrese is the brother of former LC Bird stars Tahkey and Tyrek Williams both of whom played on the 2016 LC Bird state runner up team and Region 5A Champ.  Tyrek was a member of the 2017 VHSL state championship team as well.  Both Tahkey, who played at Chowan and Quincy University and Tyrek (Virginia State) enjoyed highly successful high school careers.  Tyrese should find himself drawing the attention of college coaches as he so productively fills a key role on one of Virginia’s most successful high  school basketball programs and a team that should be in the mix once again.
