Top 10 Standouts: Upward Stars Combine

Briggs, Steinour showed off their talents at the combine.

Spartanburg, SC - Upward Stars, annually one of the nation's premier programs on the 3SSB Circuit, hosted a combine with some of the best players in the state of South Carolina and North Carolina in Spartanburg, SC at the Upward Star Center. Here are the 10 players that stood out at the combine: 

1. Jamari Briggs 2024 6’5 Guard (Christ School, NC)

Offers: Tarleton State, NC A&T, Xavier

Briggs is a physical athlete; he can guard all positions on the floor. He got a smooth mid-range shot and from beyond the arc; he can pass and can also finish at the rim. Was ranked as the No. 1 SG in South Carolina's 2023 class and recently transferred to Christ School reclassifying to the 2024 class.

2. Trent Steinour 2025 6’9 Forward (Lake Norman, NC)

Offers: Radford

Steinour is a big in North Carolina's 2025 class whose stock is rapidly rising. He efficiently shined at Big Shots throughout the circuit season and as he was the a top big at the Upward Stars combine. At 6’9 he can stretch the floor with his shooting ability out to the perimeter. His bread and butter is in the post with his footwork and touch using a wingspan pushing over 7-foot. Defensively active on the glass and blocks shots without fouling. 

3. DJ Shine 2024 6’1 Guard (Augusta Christian, GA)

Offers: Western Carolina

Shine was tough to contain off the dribble with his speed and ability to get into the paint at high rate. He shot a consistent mid-range jumper and finishes at the rim.  At 6’1 Shine plays strong and makes everyone on his team better when he is on the floor.

4. Isaiah Henry 2025 6’3 Guard (Cannon School, NC)

Offers: App State, USF 

Henry ranks as the No. 1 SG in North Carolina's 2025 class and is a Top 100 talent nationally. He plays physical and aggressive with a pure stroke from deep. With the combination of shooting, size and production he will attract many high major offers in the years to come. He's younger brother of KJ Henry, Clemson star DE and has the genes and game to be a special player in the class.

5. Treyvon Maddox 2025 6’6 Forward (Gray Collegiate, SC)

Offers: USF

Maddox is South Carolina's top overall prospect in the 2025 class and nationally ranked amongst the Top 30. He is explosive off the bounce with a skillset, length and athleticism attracting the highest levels, most recently Duke showing interest. Son of Benedict College head coach Artis Maddox. He knows how to play the game and doesn't take possessions off at both ends of the floor. High level plus upside prospect.

6. Justin Ray 2024 6’2 Guard (Eastside, SC)

Offers: Western Carolina 

Ray has been the highest rising prospect in South Carolina's 2024 class. A bouncy combo guard that plays a smooth game. He plays on the rim and shoots the ball from deep. SEC programs as now showing interest on a player that continues to show he's of that level with his playmaking ability. South Carolina's No. 2 shooting guard in the 2024 class.

7. JJ Rembert 2024 5’10 Guard (Nation Ford, SC)

Offers: Georgia Southern 

Rembert is a quick, shifty scoring guard that consistently put up numbers on the Big Shots Circuit and did so at the combine. He plays hard. He can score in the paint and deliver from deep. Rembert ranks as a top 10 PG in South Carolina's 2024 class.

8. Treyvon Smith 2025 6’7 Forward (Ridgeview, SC)

Smith is South Carolina's No. 1 big in 2025. A strong power forward, at 6'7 with lefty touch and athleticism to power through contact and finish above the rim. He can score with back to basket or off a face up game. Treyvon also defends ball screen switches and can block shots and rebound. A high level big prospect in the 2025 class.

9. Hayden Assemian 2025 6’8 Forward (Powdersville, SC)

Offers: Western Carolina

Assemian is a quick riser and he was putting on a dunk clinic at the Upward Stars combine. He plays a physical game in the paint and can score in various ways.  He's the top big prospect in the upstate of South Carolina in the 2025 class.

10. Jordan Watford 2025 6’4 Guard (Lancaster, SC)

The No. 1 point guard in South Carolina's 2025 Jordan Watford is an athletic playmaking guard at 6’4 he has an advanced game that knows how to use his size and athleticism to his advantage. He has a good mid-range game and finishes at the rim at a high rate. Makes the right reads and shines in big moments.
