Rock Hill, SC- Big Shots Nationals was an exceptional event help at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center. It was filled with breakout performances from up and coming stars, as well as some of the top teams & high level talent. College coaches were in attendance as they packed the gyms to find their next recruit.
Basketpoint USA took home one of the titles in the 17U Orange Division with a victory over BHB 17s, 77-72 at Big Shots Nationals. Their squad went 4-1, winning four straight after dropping their first game in pool play and were led by a formidable frontcourt attack of Marshall Klug and Jordan Pyke.
Marshall Klug took home the InStat MVP award as he continues to climb up the radar in the state of North Carolina. He's an athletic, mobile forward that's shown his development as a rim runner and shooter in the Basketpoint USA rotation. He produced 19.0 points per contest, including 18 points in the championship win.
The Charlotte Aces took home the 17U Blue Championship with a 61-54 victory over Next Level Elite. Jalen Small (2022) led the way for the Aces all weekend long with a team-high 72 total points across their 5-0 run to the crown. He produced 14.4 points per game, including a team-high 26 points in their close battle with Next Level Elite. He's a 6-foot-2 shooter to keep an eye on at Olympic High School this season.
Tyler Gettings is another name to know for the Charlotte Aces as well. He finished with 13 points in their title victory and averaged 11.3 points per contest on the weekend while showing his versatility on the wing and in the post on both ends. He's a strong breakout candidate in North Carolina's 2022 class.
Team Xtreme took home the third and final championship in the 17U Division with a 66-52 victory over VA Hokies Premier in the Red Championship. Jaquese Cates was impressive in his return to the hardwood, putting up 21 points in the title game to boost the offense. He's a crafty lead guard with a ton of potential scoring off the bounce as he showed this past weekend at Big Shots Nationals.
Trevor Button (2022) of Brothers Basketball (NC) was another top performer that turned heads this past weekend. He's a breakout prospect in the making given his ability to use his instincts and footwork to make tough shots. He put up 22.3 points per contest (3rd in the 17U Division) this past weekend while showing off his ability to shoot and score the ball around the rim. He's one to watch at Emerson Waldorf High.
