17U: Flight 22 prevails to win back-to-back championships

Flight 22 UA Elite Rise has become the team to beat of late with back-to-back wins on the grassroots circuit. They were led once again by 2021 wing/forward Bryce Harris, who posted 14 points in both of their semifinal victories over Garner Road 3SSB and NC Elite, to take home MVP honors in the division. Harris was one of many players on the Flight 22 roster that flourished this weekend.

In their semifinal victory over Garner Road, Flight 22 made 17 3-pointers as a team. 2021 shooting guard Charlie Miller led the way with five 3-pointers and 20 points. He was another top performer once again for Flight 22 showing that he’ll make you pay when you leave him open. 2021 wing Bennie Brooks was behind him with four made 3-pointers and 15 points. Brooks is another top performer that showed off his ability to find shots on the perimeter. New addition Jaden Cooper (Columbia commit) posted 13 points on three made 3-pointers.

In the final game, they didn’t make as many 3-pointers but they overcame 16 points from 2022 guard Jalen Hood-Schifino and a combined seven made 3-pointers from 2021 sharpshooters Donovan Atwell and Mike Zanoni. Flight 22 went on a late run that boosted them in the end.

Four players from along with Harris finished scoring in double figures with 2020 guard Reece Edwards putting up 13 points, 2021 guard Galvin Guion, 2021 forward Nygie Stroman and Miller finishing with 11 points.

17U: West Virginia Generals show their stuff

In the Blue Division, the West Virginia Generals stole the show with a 65-63 victory over Harts Select. Jayden Nervis and Austin Ball led the way for the Generals in the back and forth affair with 20 points. 11 of Nervis’ points came from the free throw line. He did a good job running the point guard position and controlling the pace. Ball is just a 2022 prospect from Man High School in West Virginia but he showed he can attack the rim and create off the bounce with purpose.

2021 forward Sam Alajiki was named the Game MVP after finishing with 10 points and a ton of rebounds in the affair. He’s a strong, 6-foot-5 prospect that can get downhill and finish with authority and had a number of big plays in the victory.

For Harts Select, they were led by 2021 guard Darius Briley and wing Jaheim Taylor, who posted 25 points apiece. They’re two underrated prospects in the state of North Carolina due for a boost in their recruitment.

In the 16U Division, Big Shots Elite NC Lewis won the bracket title over Big Shots CPA SC 78-62 thanks to a big outing from 2021 guard Cedavion Wimbley.
