Catching Up with NY 2021 PG Brett Rumpel

Brett Rumpel is a talented scoring combo guard in the NY 2021 class. Rumpel has an elite ability to handle the basketball and has perfected several dribble combinations that allow him to break down defenders off the bounce and touch the paint. He not only is a very skilled player, but he also has great athleticism and explosiveness. Rumpel can shoot well from the midrange and also knock down the three. In transition, Rumpel can score above the rim as well as find his teammates for open looks. On the defensive end, Rumpel gets stops and uses his athleticism to guard the ball at a high level. Brett is a winner and competes for every possession.

We had a chance to catch up with Brett Rumpel and hear more about his recruitment, what he is looking for in a school, and his development as a player.

Question: Which Schools are showing you the interest? 

Brett Rumpel: “Schools that have shown interest are Providence, UMass, Siena, Vermont, Eastern Michigan, St. Bonnies, and UNCW.”

Question: How did your high school season end up? 

Rumpel: “My high school went 19-4 and won the sectional title before the season was ended because of COVID.”

Question: Were there any highlights or memorable moments throughout the year? 

Rumpel: “There were many highlights and moments during my high school season this year. My favorite ones were breaking the single scoring season record ever in the area and 45 point game. Plus the Winning the sectional title and my game winner in the semis.”

Question: What qualities are you looking for in your potential college coach and program? 

Rumpel: “I’m looking for a college coach that’s going to push me to be better and fit my style of play. Which is fast paced , lots of spacing and one that is not going to keep me in a box. As important I want a college where I can make an impact right away with guaranteed minutes.”

Question: How would you describe your game on the court? 

Rumpel: “I would describe my game as super competitive, fast paced , aggressive , someone who can make plays for me and others and as a winner.”

Question: In what areas of your game would you like to improve as you prepare for the next level? 

Rumpel: “I’m preparing for the college level by getting stronger and getting my 3 pointer more lethal with range.”

Question: Who is your favorite player to study and why?

Rumpel: “I watch all of the NBA point guards. There is so much to learn from everyone. I can’t choose just one.”

Question: How have you been able to manage the quarantine while continuing to train and get better as a player? 

Rumpel: “I believe I have gotten significantly better over quarantine. It has given me a chance to get lots of shots up everyday and work on getting stronger , faster and bouncier.”
