Catching Up with SC 2021 PG Cohen Gaskins

Cohen Gaskins is a knockdown shooter that you cannot leave open in the NC 2021 class. He is a very fundamentally sound guard and does not make many mistakes. Gaskins has a very high basketball IQ and makes great reads in the half court. The Pinewood Prep high school junior currently is hearing from several mid major D1 schools and should continue to gain momentum in his recruitment. On the Big Shots Circuit, Cohen has been an outstanding player to follow as we continue to see how he develops into a promising recruit in South Carolina.

We had a chance to catch up with Cohen Gaskins and hear more about his recruitment, what he is looking for in a school, and his development as a player.

Question: How has the recruiting process been and which schools are showing you the most interest?

Cohen Gaskins: “I’ve enjoyed the recruiting process. It's been fun to see the hard work I’ve put in pay off. The Citadel, Western Carolina, and Charleston Southern have shown me the most interest at the Division 1 level and I’ve been in contact with a lot of D2 schools.”

Question: What qualities are you looking for in your potential college coach and program?

Gaskins: “For the next level I’m looking for a coach that is going to push me to be the best player I can be and believe in what I can do on the court. For a college program, I want to step into a winning culture where I can work hard and make a difference.”

Question: How would you describe your game on the court?

Gaskins: “I think that I’m a crafty and versatile player. I play with a ton of confidence and can do a lot of different things on the court.”

Question: In what areas of your game would you like to improve as you prepare for the next level?

Gaskins: “I want to get my body bigger and also get faster. I think with more speed and size I’ll really be able to take over games not just at the offensive end but the defensive end also.”

Question: Who is your favorite player to study and why?

Gaskins: “I like to study Luka Doncic because he is crafty with the ball and gets to his spots going at the speed he wants to but is also looking to get his teammates involved.”

Question: How has playing in Big Shots events helped your player development and recruitment?

Gaskins: “Big Shots events have always gotten me better because of the level of competition I’m playing against. Playing against the best players and showing that I can play with anyone is huge for me because I’m so competitive. After watching me at these tournaments coaches have reached out to me.”

We look forward to keeping up with Cohen and continuing to follow his progression as a very talented player in SC’s 2021 class.
