Catching Up with SC 2021 PG Bailey Wiseman

Bailey Wiseman is a skilled combo guard in the SC 2021 class. He is a knockdown shooter that can also create his own shot off the bounce. Wiseman is a crafty guard that plays with a chip on his shoulder. He is very fundamentally sound and has a tight handle. The James Island junior currently holds an offer from Charleston Southern University and has several other schools in the recruiting mix. On the Big Shots Circuit, Wiseman was named MVP of the Big Shots SC Tip-Off last year. College coaches need to take a serious look at Wiseman for a talented guard that is going to come in and compete with toughness.

We had a chance to catch up with Bailey Wiseman and hear more about his recruitment, what he is looking for in a school, and his development as a player.

Question: How has the recruiting process been and which schools are showing you the most interest?

Bailey Wiseman: “The recruiting process has been an amazing experience. It’s something I dreamt about my whole life and I’m very grateful to be able to live it out. As of recent I would say Charleston Southern, VMI, Wofford, App State, Elon, Citadel, and College of Charleston have shown the most interest.”

Question: What qualities are you looking for in your potential college coach and program?

Wiseman: “I am looking for a school and coach that believes in me as a player but also as a person. Just somewhere where I feel a real connection with the coaching staff as well as the players. I would love to come in and make an immediate impact wherever I go.”

Question: How would you describe your game on the court?

Wiseman: “I would describe myself as a very versatile player on offense. I can play the 1 or the 2. I believe I shoot at a high level but I also handle the ball, finish at the rim, and create shots for my teammates. From an early age it was emphasized to me that I had to be more than a shooter. I would describe my game as a complete basketball player.”

Question: In what areas of your game would you like to improve as you prepare for the next level?

Wiseman: “The main area I have been improving is just my overall athleticism and explosiveness. I understand that I will need this to be able to defend and slash at a high level. Defense has also been a main focus of improvement for me. I understand that you can play at the level you can defend and want to play at the highest level possible.”

Question: Who is your favorite player to study and why?

Wiseman: “I wouldn’t say I have 1 player that I study. I take different aspects of people’s games to try and incorporate them into my own. I love to watch the way curry is able to create space and how quickly he is able to get his shot off. But I also love to see the way Lebron is able to see the floor and pick a defense apart with his passing.”

Question: How has playing in Big Shots events helped your player development and recruitment?

Wiseman: “Playing in Big Shots has been nothing but a great experience for me as well as my teammates. There is always great competition with coaches lining the baseline. The social media presence Big Shots provides also does a great job providing exposure for recruits.”

We look forward to keeping up with Bailey and continuing to follow his progression as a very talented player in SC’s 2021 class.
