6'9 Luke Johnson named 2023 MVP, future high level prospect

MVP: Luke Johnson 2023 6'9 PF Ripley (WV) | Big Shots Elite WV

Ripley has another star Johnson coming up the ranks, Luke Johnson is a high level 2023 prospect to watch and West Virginia's top prospect in that class. Standing at 6'9 he continues to not only grow in height but his game is now expanding to shooting the 3 and attacking the rim looking to posterize you. Being the youngest Johnson brother of Chase (Dayton) and Ty (D1 2020 prospect), you pick up on toughness, skill set and instincts that your older brothers have and add to your game. Each time I see Luke I leave saying he's high major. His movements are fluid and confidence is climbing at rapid pace. At WV Top 150 we saw face up game, scored off cuts and showed the touch from the hooks inside stretched out to the 3.  A big that uses his length well to block shots and has added toughness to get boards at both ends. He averaged 10 ppg at Big Shots WV Top 150 earning 2023 MVP honors. It was a joy to see Chase Johnson blossom into a Top 100 player and I think Luke has the ability to follow suit in the 2023 class.

Isaiah Smith 2023 6’1 PG Chapmanville Regional WV

Isaiah was the top shooting 2023 prospect at WV Top 150. A pure release on his 3-point shot and knows how to create space to get it off. His release & follow through caught my eye in the skill session and it continued in games where he averaged 9.0 ppg connecting on five 3-fgs in the two games. Isaiah is a gym rat that puts time into crafting his game. He also stars in the classroom where he carries a 4.2 GPA. Playing for a program that's riding a 52 game in-state winning streak in Champmanville, Isaiah is a guard coming up the ranks that will add more wins in the years to come.

Mekhi Lisan 2023 5'7 PG Huntington Prep Regional (WV)

From the skills session to the games you could tell Mekhi Lison had the stroke and natural feel from the point guard spot that translates to the division 1 level. A freshman at Huntington Prep who coaches are very high on made his mark at WV Top 150 where he led the 2023 class in scoring.  Originally from Winnipeg Canada, the shifty point guard can create off bounce and hit the deep ball. He applies relentless pressure with a tempo game and has the quicks to get into the paint at high rate. Defensively, Lisan is active in the passing lanes and is solid on-ball defender.  Previously ranked as one of Canada's top 2023 point guards, Lisan quickly has made his impact to be one of the top point guards in WV's 2023 class.

Jaleel Law 2023 5'7 PG Fairmont Senior (WV) | WV Reign

The speed and natural point guard reads from Jaleel Law stood out at WV Top 150 as he was the top ball handler in the class, earning 2023 all star honors. He plays fast getting to his spots on the floor with ease and puts the ball in scorers hands at the right time as good point guards do. As he continues to grow, his speed and basketball IQ will keep him impacting games from the lead guard spot. He'll be a guard to keep an eye on coming up the ranks in David Retton's Fairmont Senior program & for WV Reign Elite.

Evan Parr 5’9 PG East Fairmont (WV) | WV Reign

Evan is shooting point guard that ran the show for his team at WV Top 150. He scored 10 points in game two hitting two 3-point fgs. An unselfish player that makes the extra pass and right reads from the lead guard spot. Two sport standout that also plays soccer which translates to him being able to play with a motor and slide his feet defensively.

Cory Harper 6’2 SG Elkins (WV) | Elkins Energy

Harper is a shooting guard that has nice size at 6'2 and showed the ability to score at all 3-levels. He hit two 3-fgs in game two averaging 8.0 ppg at WV Top 150. Elkins head coach Amrit Rayfield has a talented 2023 group coming up the ranks led by Harper, Jackson Bragg and Maxie McCollum.
