So far, we’ve gotten a look at the Top 10 point guards in the 2021 class in the state of North Carolina. Here’s a look at the Top 10 shooting guards in the 2021 class.

1. Terquavion Smith, Farmville Central

6-foot-3 combo guard Terquavion Smith kicks off our list of Top 10 shooting guards in the state of North Carolina. Smith has already committed to NC State, not wasting any time with his recruitment process.

2. Lucas Taylor, Heritage

Lucas Taylor is quite the do-it-all combo guard for Heritage High School. He was a key member in their rotation alongside Red Dunton on the opposite wing. He’s got length and is smooth at getting to the rim with the ball in his hands. He’s also quite the sharpshooter.

Taylor is another prospect without many DI offers but he’s drawn a ton of interest from programs with his ability to score in traffic and defend the basketball. He’s another player that can defend at a high level.

He’s at Farmville Central where he makes up one of the top backcourts in the state alongside Justin Wright. Farmville Central went 32-0 this past season while winning the 2A State title against Forest Hills. It will be interesting to see how Smith develops this season as a junior especially with other talent around him still.

3. Jalen McDonald, Leesville Road

Jalen McDonald made waves in the North Carolina hoops scene when he announced his transfer from Knightdale to Leesville Road.

McDonald is an athletic freak that can jump out the gym and makes defenders look silly on the fastbreak. He’s developing his jump shot as well, an asset that would get him more looks from college programs. So far, he’s gotten offers from App. State, East Carolina, Norfolk State, Murray State and Ole Miss.

4. A.J. Smith, Hickory Grove Christian

A.J. Smith is emerging as quite the high-major prospect at Hickory Grove Christian and with Team Charlotte on the Under Armour circuit. Smith is a strong guard that’s underrated on the defensive end that can guard the 1-3 positions given his knack for the ball on defense.

On offense, Smith can get to the rim off the dribble and shoot with relative efficiency from behind the arc. He doesn’t hold any Division I offers just yet, but that should change during the 2019-20 season.

5. Terence Harcum Jr., Granville Central

Terence Harcum Jr. runs the main guard position at Granville Central but he’s quite the scorer and playmaker in their rotation. Harcum scored at volume for the Panthers this past season, putting up 25.7 points per game as his team went 19-9 on the season.

Harcum plays the game at a high level with his ability to score from anywhere on the floor. This upcoming season, he has an opportunity to win the regular-season conference title again. He hasn’t gotten any DI offers yet but he’s drawn interest from Lehigh, Elon and Ohio State.

6. Jarvis Moss, Cannon School

Jarvis Moss is one of the top 3-point shooters in the 2021 class at Cannon School. He’s the definition of a “lights out” shooter although at times, it takes him moments to warm up. When he’s on, the results are typically positive in the win-column.

Moss has a nice stroke from behind the arc and is due to form a solid backcourt mate alongside 2022 high-profile recruit Jaden Bradley. He has offers from Alcorn State, Samford, Buffalo and Houston Baptist.

7. Redford Dunton, Heritage

Red Dunton is a shooting guard, at least for now, but his ability to play in the post makes him a versatile threat as well. Dunton can really fill it up from behind the arc and is a lethal weapon on the fastbreak. In the halfcourt, he has the ability to post-up and make solid plays with his back to the basket.

Dunton makes for a dynamic attack on offense with his feel for the game alongside Lucas Taylor. As a young duo, they’re still figuring things out as a collective group on defense. He’s a player with high-major potential given his size and wingspan.

9. Bryce Alfino, Combine Academy

Bryce Alfino has emerged as quite the sharpshooter over at Davidson Day. Alfino has grown into quite the role player shooting the ball behind the arc in his two seasons so far. He also had quite the summer with Team Charlotte on the AAU circuit.

When he’s not getting open and draining 3-pointers on offense, he’s forcing steals on defense. He’s quite the defender with his long wingspan and prowess for on-ball pressure. He’s drawn an offer from Howard already.

10. Darrius Davis, COMBINE Academy

Moravian Prep hasn’t been shy about pulling talent from other states. In this case, Darrius Davis has moved from Teays Valley Christian (WV) to the Hoop State over in Hickory, North Carolina. Davis is another lead guard that can fill it up in a hurry with the ball in his hands.

With other players ahead of him in the rotation in 2019-20, he’ll be well prepared to compete at the next level for playing time. He has offers already from La Salle and Rhode Island.
