The state of North Carolina has quite the talent pool in the 2021 class. We’ve covered the Top 10 point guards and Top 10 shooting guards already. Here’s a look at the Top 10 Small Forwards in the state of North Carolina.

1. Dontrez Styles, Kinston

Dontrez Styles has a very bright future on the hardwood, especially as a Kinston product. Styles hails from the hometown of Jerry Stackhouse, Cedric Maxwell, Brandon Ingram and Reggie Bullock. He’s headed in their footsteps as the top small forward, figuratively speaking at least.

Styles has the ability to play the perimeter and on the interior, making him a versatile threat when he’s on the floor. He’s got nice size length and strength which allows him to battle down low and through traffic for buckets and rebounds. He committed to North Carolina in the Spring of 2020.

2. Eric van der Heijden, Millbrook

Eric van der Heijden spent his 2018-19 season at Ravenscroft, but with a change of scenery to Millbrook High School, he’s set to make them a top team in the state of North Carolina once again. His brother, Jake, currently attends Bucknell, and Eric is due to follow in his footsteps to a Division I college program.

van der Heijden is a lethal 3-point shooter on the perimeter and can play above the rim when needed. He doesn’t hold any DI offers just yet, but his time is surely coming.

3. B.J. Freeman, Clayton

B.J. Freeman has shown quite the upside through the spring and summer on the AAU scene, which speaks for his current rank among small forwards in the 2021 class. He’s emerging as a forward with guard skills with his ability to score from 3, get to the paint and finish and make plays for teammates.

Freeman has a big frame which makes him hard to guard and on defense, he uses his size to create havoc on defense. He’s racked up a good number of offers recently including from Purdue, Penn State and others.

4. Omarion Bodrick, Combine Academy

Omarion Bodrick is a wiry small forward that’s difficult to guard in the open court. Bodrick has a nice wingspan which allows him to play above the rim and fly by defenders on the break. While he has a knack for getting to the rim, he’s also not a bad shooter from behind the 3-point arc.

Bodrick is a tough cover with his height at 6-foot-7 and he won’t hesitate to play inside either, making him a mismatch in some cases. North Carolina A&T, Rider and USC Upstate have offered him so far.

5. Bryce Harris, Greensboro Day

6. Mike Dudley, United Faith Christian

Mike Dudley is listed at just 6-foot-5 on the roster sheet but he plays a lot bigger than that with his ability to attack the rim. Dudley is due for a breakout season at United Faith Christian Academy after having a busy summer on the AAU circuit with Team United.

He can really fill it up with the ball in his hands, whether it be from the midrange or going to the rim. It will be interesting to see how his recruitment turns out over the next few seasons. He holds offers from Elon and Hampton already.

9. Bennie Brooks, East Carteret

Bennie Brooks is another player due for a breakout season at East Carteret High School this upcoming season. Brooks is a player that can fill it up from all three levels at a high volume. He was impressive in a number of BigShots Tournaments this past summer.

Brooks is an inside-out combo wing that can shoot the ball efficiently. He’s good for getting rebounds and scoring on the break while the defense is still adjusting. He could find himself with a number of mid-major offers when it’s all said and done for this class.

9. Chris Ford, North Mecklenburg

Chris Ford is an aggressive slashing wing over at North Mecklenburg High School. He’s due to have a strong year with 2020 guard Tristan Maxwell in the rotation in 2019-20.

Ford is a scorer that attacks the rim with the ball in his hands and quite an underrated rebounder. So far, he pulled offers from App. State and Davidson. With mid-majors already knocking, it won’t be a surprise if that’s the route he went.

10. Leontae Moye, Farmville Central

Farmville Central doesn’t just have 2020 point guard Justin Wright and 2021 guard Terquavion Smith. They’ve also got Leontae Moye on the opposite wing, who’s a walking double-double.

Moye is a relentless presence on the hardwood with his ability to crash the glass and block shots. His athletic ability is something that should get the attention of college programs. He’s one to watch this season on a talented Farmville Central squad.
