Big Shots Northern Virginia March 26-27

Big Shots Northern Virginia
Guard Duty
. Big Shots Northern Virginia was a tournament for the young guns but dominated by quick guard play. Team PTS 15 vs Annandale Bulldawgs 15 led the start for the Northern Virginia Championship series with an uptempo feud that ended with a Annandale victory 52-34. Despite 4 three-pointers and 18 points from PTS guard Gabriel Alem, Bulldawg shooting led by Nate Barrigan who finished with 26 points was just too much for Team PTS to handle for the full game. Next on deck were the boys with the big shorts. The VA Elite Byrd 10 vs PSPA Rams 10 brought unanticipated excitement and energy to Flint Hill East with a nail-bitter finish. The Rams last second efforts were not enough as VA Elite Byrd's full court pressure and quick paced scoring attack led by Isaiah Folkes who finished with 10 points was just enough to pull out the victory over the Rams 22-21. Loudoun Triple Threat Spartans 11 squared off next in a low scoring but close contest against the Slam-n-Jam Hoyas 11. Spartans were crowned champion 29-28 thanks to Harry Whittleton's shot in the last remaining seconds. Set of games followed with Team Richmond 16 vs Winchester Eagles 16 at the lead. Despite 27 points by Rze Culbreatah of the Eagles, Team Richmond emerged with the win over the Eagles 75-60 thanks to the stellar play of guard Tim Jones who finished with 20 points. On the other court Loudoun Xtreme 12 battled VA Elite Snell 12. In another low scoring down to the wire game Loudoun Xtreme came out on top 22-20 after a teardrop floater from Roddy Hairston as time expired. The final set of games start off with Vienna Magic 13 vs VA Elite 13. VA Elite dominated from the tip. VA Elite won the contest 65-35 with a balanced scoring attack led by Daniel Ungerleider who finished with 12 points. On the other court a true backyard brawl Fairfax Stars battled Team Take Over 17 for the title. Team Take Over managed to hold off the Fairfax stars 67-65 with a balanced attack despite late game shots from Fairfax Stars forward Mo Alie-Cox and guard Troy Thomas. Big Shots Northern Virginia was a tournament of the guards and another stepping stone leading to Big Shots Summer Events. Visit www.bigshots.net for tournament scores and player statistics.

Hoop Booth 17
Seth Allen. 6'2. 2012
Lefty. High level court vision and completely runs the show when the ball is in his hand. Quick smooth shot and has burst by speed to attack the rim. Plays at a high up tempo speed and can finish above the rim in transition.
Evaluation: 86

Maryland 3D 17
Connor Lipinski
A point guard that is quick, tough, and a true coaches son. Understands the angles of the game and simply battles every possession on both ends. Size may be in question, but Connor makes up for that with his speed, athleticism, and High IQ.
Evaluation: 81

Team Takeover 17
Demetric Austin
His body is going to be the deciding factor in his career. He is simply a tank. Has the ability to score in traffic and finish around the paint but his fundamentals are raw and needs work on almost every aspect of his game.
Evaluation: 79

Team Richmond Carter 16
Tim Jones
Small quick guard with quick hands on defense and blow by speed on offense with the ability to score in traffic and smooth floater finish over opponents in the half court and transition.
Evaluation: 86

Squires Richmond 14
Joshua Brown
One of those players that always should be on the court. Is a versatile player capable of being moved into several positions to fit any team. Has on point balance with deceptive speed to get to the basket or stop and use his mid-game. Has a determination to win and can be a great addition to any back court.
Evaluation: 80

Tavion Petty
Has potential to be one of the top players in Virginia. Lengthy shooting guard that has a high release and isn't afraid to rebound at both ends. Can shoot the ball at will and get a shot off on anybody.
Evaluation: 83

Fairfax Stars
Mo Alie-cox
Incredible athlete with a surprising shot blocking ability for his size at the forward position. Even though he needs work on his footwork he is a strong defender and rebounder that has the strength to battle down low even though he is undersized.
Evaluation: 80

Winchester Eagles 16
Rze Culbreatah
Shooter from any range. Has a quick release on the catch and off the dribble. Only needs a split second to get his shot off. Plays with consistency and shows a scorers mentality.
Evaluation: 82
